Welsh flyweight contender Aaron Aby is still waiting to be booked for his Oktagon MMA return, and shared the names of three potential opponents he’d relish the opportunity of facing upon his return.
Aby, who agonisingly lost out on the Oktagon flyweight title for the second time when he was outpointed by Sam Creasey at Oktagon 56 in Birmingham, is looking to bounce back, and is starting to get itchy knuckles as he awaits his next fight date.
“I get asked every day about fight news,” he posted to his Facebook page.
“My team is, and has been, working hard to make something happen. This is the longest I’ve been active and gone without a date. I’m ready and waiting. Hopefully we have some news soon???”
Aby then turned his attention to the topic of his potential next opponent, and suggested three names, including a rematch with the man who defeated him on cuts to capture the Oktagon flyweight title, Elias Garcia.
“Other than calling out Garcia I’ve never called out anyone (PS: He’s still running),” he said.
“I’m looking to compete and challenge myself against the best. Stipe Brcic rematch has been talked about? Or I’ve seen ex-UFC fighter David Dvorak might be entering the division? Let’s gooooo?”
Despite not managing to capture championship gold in Oktagon, Aby remains one of the promotions’ most compelling overseas stars. The Welshman’s backstory, and his battles with cancer and cystic fibrosis have been well documented. But his fighting spirit, integrity and sportsmanship inside and outside of the cage have earned him respect from across the MMA world.
Now he’s hoping to push himself right back into the frame for a third tilt at Oktagon 125-pound gold, and a potential rematch with his nemesis Creasey.
