It appears like Alexander Gustafsson is putting retirement on hold.
The Swedish fighter, Alexander Gustafsson, retired from mixed martial arts (MMA) due to his fourth-round submission loss to Anthony Smith back in June, the second straight defeat after Jon Jones finished him in late 2018.
However, the former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight title contender is willing to strike back. “It came quite fast,” he said. “I was home for a couple days, and I had itching in my hands and wanted to get back and train… “I just want to train and get into shape. Let’s see how it goes.”
The 32-year-old, Gustafsson (18-6) could expect a fight against former middleweight champion, Luke Rockhold (16-5) who is recovering from a broken jaw suffered in a knockout loss to Jan Błachowicz at UFC 239.
“(I) would love a fight,” Gustafsson said. “A fight against Luke would be a great way to come back. He is a tough guy, a legend.”
