Bolton boxer, Amir Khan, challenged Floyd Mayweather for the final time last week, to accept his fight invitation, giving him 5 days to make a decision. Now, more than a week has passed and Mayweather has failed to answer, it seems that the two-time world champion Khan, will have to alter his plan: a welterweight title fight against Filipino Pacquiao.
Manny Pacquiao and Amir Khan crossed paths at an informal meeting in run down corner of south east London, and had one-to-one discussion about an alternative super fight if Floyd Mayweather failed to decide a combat against either of them.
Khan and Pacquiao are friends outside the ring and shared the same coach, named Freddie Roach. Khan is hoping for a fight with Pacquiao in Dubai, considering it to be the perfect place for their fight. The reunion of two top boxers, ended with the royal dinner at Buckingham Palace, with boxing fan Prince Harry.
Mayweather’s outstanding boxing record of 47/47, gives him the privilege of choosing only the most lucrative opponents to bout with. Currently, the fight against Manny Pacquiao will be a lot more lucrative than anything with Khan.
According to sources, a deadline has also been set by Manny Pacquiao to force Floyd Mayweather to decide whether he wants to sign the $200 Million contract, by the end of January. The Filipino boxing star has already accepted the conditions for the most keenly awaited fight in boxing history, which has been agreed for May 2 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, but American boxer Mayweather has yet to sign the agreement.
During Pacquiao’s London visit, his adviser Michael Koncz told the media that in case that Floyd fails to decide, they will consider Amir Khan as the next best alternative.
