Renowned Scottish Muay Thai star Amy Pirnie had plenty of hype surrounding her ONE Championship debut this past weekend at ONE Fight Night 24, and she lived up to the billing with a knockout victory over Yu Yau Pui in just 49 seconds.
Pirnie’s entrance into ONE’s atomweight division at Bangkok’s iconic Lumpinee Stadium on August 3 marked her first outing in three years. And with the highlight-reel finish, she extended her incredible win streak to 22.
“It’s been an incredible journey to get to ONE and put on a performance like that. I feel pretty proud of myself for it,” she told Sportskeeda MMA‘s Nic Atkin.
“It means a lot to me because Yu is such a great fighter here at ONE. She’s not low in the division. She’s rattled through everyone who’s been put in front of her so far. So to get the win with a substantial KO, it’s massive.”
Debuting against Yu was no easy task, either. The Hong Kong hitter was 6-0 in ONE Championship with five knockouts. Her aggressive style made many of her opponents wilt, but not the Scottish striker.
Pirnie claims her team devised the perfect game plan to thwart Yu’s pressure, and it came to fruition with the counter left hook in less than one minute of the firefight.
“We actually have been working on that,” she said.
“We know she steps in and drops her hands, so we were planning on that. Her pressure was great from the start, so I can see why it was overwhelming for a lot of her opponents. So I tried to play it tentatively on the shot and managed to get it quite quickly.”
Having left the battle unscathed, Pirnie is already looking to her next outing as she plans to continue climbing the atomweight Muay Thai ladder. And she’s happy to take on all comers to prove she’s the best in the world.
“I’ll be back very soon,” she said.
“I’ll be here as quick as ONE Championship wants me back. Everybody comes here for the championships, so it would be awesome to get to that stage, but I’m just happy to fight whoever is put in front of me.”
