While talking about his future prospects after his biggest showdown against Khabib Nurmagomedov, Conor McGregor showed an inclination in fighting Anderson Silva. The answer came as a surprise as the fighter was presented with the options of Nate Diaz, Dustin Poirier, Georges St-Pierre and Tyron Woodley and instead he choose occasional light heavyweight and former UFC middleweight champion.
What the fighter said seemed like a bolt from the blue. According to the Notorious,
“I’d be interested in an Anderson Silva bout. I swear to God. Anderson is a legend of the game. I’m sure he’s hunting for a few quid, as well.”
The interest shown by the Irishman to lock horns with Anderson Silva was responded by the fighter in a positive manner, promptly.
On Wednesday morning, Silva responded to McGregor’s interest eagerly on Instagram. According to the Spider,
“It would be an honor to test myself with Conor McGregor. He’s an unorthodox fighter and has proven he must be respected. Let’s make it happen. The UFC wants super fights, I’m sure fans from all over the world want to see this fight. Professionally, I believe it would be incredible to test my martial arts abilities with a fighter like Conor McGregor in a true superfight. He’s focused on fighting Khabib Nurmagomedov now, after this fight I’m ready for this challenge. When and where he wants.”
Last year, Silva also showed similar interests. Though talks did surface about an upcoming bout between McGregor and the Brazilian, nothing came to fruition.
As the two players are ready to take on the challenge, it is quite a possibility that both would be locking horns this year.
