World heavyweight champion, Andy Ruiz Jr is “not in great shape” as he starts preparations for his Anthony Joshua rematch, reported by his own trainer.
But he needs to do a lot of hard work before he takes on Anthony Joshua in Saudi Arabia on December 7th 2019.
Trainer Manny Robles admits that he needs to shed the extra pounds, especially after being sent a package from his beloved Snickers celebrating his shock win against Joshua in June 2019. Robles said: “We’re working on getting back (into shape) together this week.”
“I was hoping it would be [Monday] but it wasn’t, so we’re definitely working on that right now.
“We didn’t have a training session [Monday], but we’re scheduled to start training this week.
Ruiz, 29 often criticized for his weight issues, weighed in at 19st 2lbs for his spell in New York in June but proved eventually that weight is just a number.
He put on a spectacular show that caught the sporting world by surprise and marked the first defeat of Joshua’s career upon the British star.
However, in order to hold on to the WBA, WBO and IBF belts in the Middle East, he needs to step up his game and give his best shots.
