Anthony Joshua wins the vacant British Heavyweight title after stopping Dillian Whyte in the seventh round at the O2 Arena, London. The finish came at exactly 1 minute and 27 seconds of round 7.
It was supposed to be a close fight but Joshua made it look simple against his fellow countrymen. Although, the fight had some great drama and Whyte gave everything.
Joshua showed his full extent of skills and power and showed the world that he is ready for the world heavyweight championship fight with Tyson Fury next.
With this amazing victory Joshua now move to 15-0 with 15 KO’s. Joshua also entered the bout beyond 3rd round for the 1st time in his professional career, as Whyte made him work really hard to win the British Heavyweight title.
Joshua was delighted to beat his nemesis Whyte who beat him in his Amateur days.
Joshua said after the winning the fight: “I made it tough for myself. But that’s what I need. He came out and gave me rounds, I made some mistakes but I learnt some lessons. I’ll keep building and building until I get to the top.”
He further added: “I had the same power I had in the first round in the eighth, that’s why I was able to get him out of there.”
Now the path is clear for the newly crowned British Heavyweight Champion to challenge Tyson Fury for the World Championship next year.
