Ben Askren doesn’t seem too impressed with the graphic design for the July 6th UFC 239 poster. He feels the poster just isn’t ‘funky’ enough.
The UFC just released the official poster for UFC 239 showing the big international July 6 fight card. The main headlining match features Jon Jones and Thiago Santos. Meanwhile, two division champion Amanda Nunes will defend her 135-pound strap against former champion Holly Holm. As usual, the poster is not very inspiring. It seems the UFC has found a “winning” formula, save a few minor tweaks.
The poster didn’t impress welterweight contender Ben Askren either. He joked about the poster in a tweet,
”Put the main event on that poster and you will sell some more tickets!”
Ever since ONE Championship traded Askren with the UFC last fall, Ben Askren has taken the UFC by storm.
Askren has a reputation for calling out nearly every big name in the welterweight division. Askren has impressed audiences with his debut win over former champion Robbie Lawler at UFC 235.
People know that Ben Askren has an opinion on every situation. Everyone’s used to Askren’s digs.
The ‘Funky’ will now face Jorge Masvidal in what’s going to be quite the grudge match. Masvidal said he can’t come up with ‘one bit’ of anything to like about Askren. He also considers him someone who talks a lot and doesn’t have fighting abilities. On the other hand, Ben Askren has smartly been able to pressurize “Gamebred” into signing a contract to fight.
It’s a classic striker vs. grappler match up with both men being absolute beasts at what they do. And while they may not be on the poster, we have a feeling their bout is going to have a lot of people talking by the time we make it to July.
