Wondering what it takes to be a boxer and why it’s so important to stay fit and healthy? Let’s start afresh this New Year 2019. If you think boxing’s your ticket to getting fit, you better brace yourself for the toughest sports in the world. Boxing will help you improve your agility, strength, speed, stamina and punching power, all the while improving your health and physique.
The Challenge
You’re going to give yourself a chance to the most challenging activity and that too you are starting with the New Year 2019. Now start off with a 7-mile run!
Just kidding… that will come later!
To start up with you have to make your mind to become a boxer, come what may. With the right mindset you have to start training no matter how difficult it gets to become a boxer.
Let’s begin with the body first.
Prepping your body
Go out for runs and workout on alternate days.
Start with a 20 to 30-minute run. Distance doesn’t matter in the beginning, but the endurance you build from running will come in handy later during training. Initially, your workouts should include body-weight exercises. Afterwards, you can add barbell and dumbbell exercises as you progress.
The exercises that you should include are:
Squats – 10-20 reps
Push-ups – 10-15 reps
Dumbbell rows – 8-12 reps
Jumping jacks – 25-30 reps
Barbell shoulder press – 8-10 reps
Bench press – 8-10 reps
You can do 2 or 3 rounds of these exercises if you can manage. Also be careful to choose weights that you can lift comfortably.
Prepping your Mind
Think like a boxer before even you start with the training. You must develop this belief that you’re invincible. It is the confidence you build in the beginning that will take you far. Patience is the name of the game and you have to show perseverance.
Keep in mind that you won’t become Tyson or Ali or Marciano in a month, or even in a year. That takes mental discipline that you would need to develop before you even enter a gym. Step aside from the realms of negativity. Move at your own pace and don’t let people demotivate you.
There will be people out there to tell you that boxing isn’t your game and it will start when you hit your first hurdle. Don’t let those people get under your skin and keep telling yourself that you are here for a reason.
You can also try some yoga poses that give you more focus and mental strength this New Year 2019.
The Entertainment
Boxing is one of the most entertaining sports in the world and it is not all work and no play. There is much to learn in the great sport of boxing that you will never feel bored. So start the New Year 2019 with like-minded people who share the same passion for the sport. There is equipment to handle, skills to master, punches to take and opponents to beat. You’ll have fun every minute you are in the gym.
The Fitness and Muscle Growth
Boxing will help you build muscle groups like anterior and posterior deltoids, triceps, biceps, back, core and your leg muscles. Every muscle counts when it comes to delivering a powerful punch because you have to transfer your whole body-weight into it. It will help you get a well-toned body by increasing your body muscle.
The Proprioception
What is that? It basically means perception or awareness of the position and movement of the body.
Boxing helps raise your spatial awareness. It will improve your hand-eye coordination and make your mind and body work as one unit. This will further increase your Kinesthetic Intelligence.
