Cage Warriors will return to Manchester’s BEC Arena on Saturday, September 21, with a light heavyweight title fight already confirmed for the card.
Newly-crowned 205-pound champion Andy “The Vice” Clamp will put his title on the line in a five-round light heavyweight title fight as he takes on former middleweight champion James Webb in a battle between stalwarts of the respected European promotion.
Clamp captured the light heavyweight title at Cage Warriors 168 with a third-round TKO finish of Matty Byfield. The protege of respected UK MMA veteran Todd Blackledge has a record of 13 wins, 2 losses, 1 no contest, and will put his title on the line for the first time against.
Looking to dethrone Clamp is former middleweight champion Webb, who recently moved up to the 205-pound class and picked up a decision victory over Poland’s Adam Bieganski at Cage Warriors 174 in London in July.
Now the former 185-pound champ, who trains under Chris Fields at Team KF, will bid to become a two-division Cage Warriors champion as he faces Clamp for light heavyweight gold as he bids to claim his third Cage Warriors win in three appearances at the BEC Arena.
“We’ve got two big guys with big pedigrees going at it for the light heavyweight title at the BEC Arena,” said Cage Warriors President Graham Boylan.
“Andy Clamp has scaled the mountain of Cage Warriors, and he’s going to have the home crowd behind him for his first defence in Manchester.
“He’ll have an excellent challenger in James Webb, who’s walking into enemy territory in pursuit of a second world title.
“We’re going to have a real North versus South clash on our hands at Cage Warriors 178!”
The bout will form part of the main card at the September 21 event, with more bouts set to be announced in due course.
