Cage Warriors returns to our screens this weekend with a stacked fight card in Rome, Italy, but there was one key weight miss as the fighters took to the scale ahead of fight night.
The main event will see former Cage Warriors welterweight champion Stefano Paterno look to continue his outstanding form as he faces Brazil’s Jorge Bueno in a 175-pound catchweight bout
Paterno is on a five-fight win streak as he prepares to headline on home soil on Saturday night at the PalaPellicone sports complex in Rome, and he had no issues on the scale as he arrived inside the limit, at 174.2 pounds.
Things weren’t so smooth for his opponent, however, as Bueno could only manage 175.8 pounds, 0.8 pounds over the contracted limit, and was unable to lose any further weight. As a result Bueno will surrender a percentage of his fight purse and the bout will continue as scheduled.
There was also a change of weight class in the co-main event, with duelling lightweights Simone Patrizi and Konstantinos Ntelis both agreeing before the weigh-in to compete at a catchweight of 160 pounds, and both men made sure they were on the money weight-wise, with Patrizi tipping the scale at 159.2 pounds to Ntelis’ 159.4 pounds.
The bout sheet lost one matchup, with the featherweight bout between Pietro Mochetti and Antonio Marcos Souza removed from the fight card after Souza arrived on the scale more than four pounds over the contracted featherweight limit, at 150.3 pounds. Cage Warriors officials confirmed that Souza was unwilling to cut further weight and, after consultation with Mochetti and his team, the Italian opted not to go ahead with the bout.
It means the official fight card for Cage Warriors 179 will now feature 16 fights. Check out the full bout list and official weights below.
