That’s what happens when you don’t learn from your mistakes Ronda!
Nobody expected Ronda to lose without a fight at UFC 207 at the T-Mobile Arena Los Vegas. Amanda Nunez pounded on Ronda Rousey for 48 SECONDS until the referee had seen enough. For Rousey fans worldwide it was one of the most disappointing performances they had ever witnessed from a UFC star and ex-champ.
Many are criticizing her coach Edmund Tarverdyan for her miserable state, even Nunez mocked Tarverdyan because he made Rousey believe in something that she wasn’t – ‘A BOXER’.
Everybody knew she wouldn’t stand a chance if she tried boxing with the Brazilian who is known for her superior boxing skills and power. Ronda’s only chance was if she had stuck to her judo skills where she had most success in the past being a world-class judoka and Olympics bronze medalist.
Nunez after the win said: “I am dedicated fighter and I had my team behind me. All those guys have made me an amazing fighter and brought me onto another level. This is my moment. She had her time, she done her actress parts – thank you Ronda Rousey but right now I am the champion. I prepared my mind, body and spirit. I know they love Rousey but I was ready for this fight. I trained for this girl since my first fight in UFC. I am the best on the planet. She’s going to go do movies. Forget about her. She has a lot of money already. We have vision and a lot of talent. Forget about Ronda Rousey. I’m the real champion.”
Rowdy released a statement in which she states that she needs time to think about her future and what she needs to do next.
Rousey’s complete statement read: “I want to say thank you to all of my fans who have been there for me in not only the greatest moments but in the most difficult ones. Words cannot convey how much your love and support means to me. Returning to not just fighting, but winning, was my entire focus this past year. However, sometimes – even when you prepare and give everything you have and want something so badly – it doesn’t work how you planned. I take pride in seeing how far the women’s division has come in the UFC and commend all the other women who have been part of making this possible, including Amanda (Nunes). I need to take some time to reflect and think about the future. Thank you for believing in me and understanding.”
What does the future hold now for Ronda Rousey? Many believe it’s time for her to retire and just focus on entertainment media like movies or WWE, where she would be a huge success. Even ‘The Lioness’ thinks Ronda should retire: ‘Can’t be a champion forever’.
Despite the fact she lost in such a one sided affair, Rowdy pocketed a huge sum of £2.5million, as compared to £200,000 that Nunez received. In Nunez, UFC has found a new superstar who is here to stay and replace Ronda ‘Rowdy’ Rousey as the ‘baddest’ woman on the planet and the bantamweight champ of the UFC. With the kind of power ‘The Lioness’ holds – it doesn’t seem likely for the belt to change hands anytime soon.
