The saga surrounding the bout between Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler will finally come to fruition, if a recent comment from McGregor is to be believed.
The status of the proposed matchup between former two-division UFC champion McGregor and former three-time Bellator lightweight champion Chandler has become the biggest will-they, won’t-they storyline in MMA, with the pair initially coaching against each other on the 31st season of The Ultimate Fighter and originally being set to face off in a welterweight bout at UFC 303 during UFC International Fight Week.
But doubts started to surface about the matchup when a planned press conference in Dublin was scrapped at the 11th hour, and it was subsequently revealed that McGregor had sustained a toe injury that had forced him to pull out of the proposed fight date.
Since then, there has been much talk online about whether the matchup will ever come to fruition, to the point that Chandler started to plant the seed for a possible alternative matchup with a returning Nate Diaz.
But a tweet from McGregor to Chandler has added some positive news to the mix, with the Dubliner telling the America, “I talked to Dana today about our new date, all looking good! 24′ for sure,” followed by thumbs up and praying emojis.

Chandler shared the tweet with the world by quote-tweeting McGregor’s message, with shaking hands and fist-bump emojis to indicate his approval.
Now it’s a case of sitting tight and waiting for the announcement of the fight. Could it be added to the UFC’s huge event at Sphere in Las Vegas on September 14? Or could it be the showpiece fight of the UFC’s traditional end-of-year Las Vegas pay-per-view in December? Only time will tell, but if this latest interaction is anything to go by, we could be getting good news about the matchup in the not-too-distant future.
