Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) President Dana White teased a meeting between him and former champ Conor McGregor a few weeks back. Now it seems like it’s finally going to happen.
He was supposed to meet Conor McGregor to discuss the much anticipated return match. McGregor lost to Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229, which was followed by a ban due to post-match fight.
According to White, Conor McGregor could be returning as soon as this summer.
White said,
“He and I are getting together very soon, within the next week, and we’re going to figure out what’s next for him, I see him fighting this summer.”
While there are number of options for McGregor’s comeback, one of the people most likely to face him is fan-favorite Donald Cerrone. The two were briefly linked for a showdown a few months back, but talks fizzled quickly. “Cowboy” has already declared he’d given up trying to wrangle in “Notorious”. However, he was quick to call him out one more time following his win over Al Iaquinta at UFC on ESPN+ 9.
According to White, he says a fight between the two men makes all the sense in the world.
White said,
“The Cerrone fight makes sense, there’s a couple different options out there for him. He was talking about the Cerrone fight at one point. I don’t really know but that fight makes sense.”
Indeed, there is always a possibility that the promotion books McGregor to take on Tony Ferguson. Ferguson recently announced his own return following meetings with the UFC brass in “Sin City.”
The only fight that isn’t on the table for Conor McGregor at the moment is a rematch with Khabib. “The Eagle” will be facing the interim title holder Dustin Poirier in a title unification match at UFC 242 in September in Abu Dhabi.
That said, if Conor doesn’t get Cerrone or Ferguson, who else makes sense?
