The fans are anxiously waiting on Conor McGregor to return to fighting. But still, there is no final date, location, or rival to welcome back the former two-division UFC champion.
McGregor recently tweeted that he wants to fight on Dec. 14 in his hometown of Dublin, Ireland, raised few eyebrows as the date coincides with UFC 245, but the card is being held in Las Vegas – not Ireland.
The former UFC lightweight and featherweight champion’s next fight will be a huge deal. So when UFC president Dana White was asked when McGregor is going to fight next in a Twitter Q&A session, he said: “I’m sure you saw his tweet. Conor wants to fight on December 14 in Dublin, but we have a fight in Vegas.
“So if he doesn’t fight on that card, he will fight early next year.”
Adding McGregor to the card would be a huge boost to the year-end show, and the former interim champion has traded barbs with former interim titleholder Dustin Poirier over the social media. Poirier called for a rematch against the Irish superstar following his third-round submission loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 242.
McGregor has not fought since losing in a fourth-round submission to Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229 on Oct. 6, 2018.
