“Dynamite” Daniel Dubois showcased to the world exactly why he carries that moniker as he put his punch power on show for all to see on a spectacular night at Wembley Stadium.
Dubois knocked out former unified heavyweight champion of the world Anthony Joshua in a stunning performance that saw him floor the former champ FIVE times en route to a fifth-round knockout.
Dubois turned up the power to drop Joshua in Rounds 1, 3 and 4 before closing the show in the fifth. Ironically, the finish came just as Joshua appeared to be rallying and enjoying his best moments of the fight. AJ appeared to stun Dubois with a big right hand, and moved in looking for the finish. But the former champion seemingly neglected his own defence as he moved forward, and was countered brilliantly by Dubois, who sent AJ face-first into the canvas for the final time.
It stopped Joshua from becoming a three-time heavyweight world champion, while underlining his own status as a legitimate heavyweight champion. It also all but guaranteed that his next fight would be in a title unification bout, with Oleksandr Usyk set to face Tyson Fury for the WBC, WBA and WBO belts in Riyadh on December 21.
Dubois’ performance left the record 96,000 crowd at Wembley Stadium shocked, amazed and impressed in equal measure, and, moments after securing the biggest win of his boxing career, the usually quiet and mild-mannered Dubois, roared at the crowd to announce his arrival as a legitimate British boxing superstar.
“I’ve only got a few words to say,” he said, before addressing the Wembley crowd, “ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?!”
“I’m a gladiator, you know? I’m just a warrior, to the end. To the bitter end. I’m just ready to go. I want to go to the top level of this game and reach my full potential.
“I’ve been on a rollercoaster ride, and this is my time. It’s my redemption story, and I’m not going to stop until I reach my full potential.”
Dubois’ victory improved his record to 22 wins, 2 losses, and saw him seal his place at heavyweight boxing’s top table. heading into 2025.
