Second-ranked ONE women’s atomweight MMA contender Denice Zamboanga wants to continue showing her dominance at ONE Fight Night 27: Tang vs. Abdullaev this weekend, and she has gold in her eyes.
“The Menace” is set to square off with No.4-ranked contender Alyona Rassohyna for the ONE interim women’s atomweight MMA world title in Bangkok on Saturday, knowing that a win will guarantee her a shot at Stamp Fairtex’s divisional crown later this year.
Zamboanga has studied the acumen of her Ukrainian foe, and she has determined her strengths lie in her ground game. But the Filipina star feels ready to wander into Rassohyna’s yard to push her to the limit.
“I want to test her grappling. I haven’t seen her face a pure grappler or wrestler as she’s faced strikers. That’s why she always dominates the ground game,” Zamboanga said.
“She hasn’t faced someone like me. I want to prove that I’m better than her on the ground.|
Zamboanga is riding a three-fight winning streak, which includes a remarkable short-notice victory over Noelle Grandjean at ONE 167 last June, so her confidence is at an all-time high.
So much so, that when she steps into the famed Lumpinee Stadium ring this weekend, she’s confident that she can best Rassohyna and claim the interim world title in style.
“Being a well-rounded fighter is truly important in MMA. You can’t just focus on one thing. That’s why I’m so confident coming into every fight,” Zamboanga said.
“I’m confident that I’ll get to finish her wherever it goes, whether it be on the feet or on the ground.”
