With the action coming from the other side of the world, at an unusual time of day for most regular fight fans in the UK and US, you could be forgiven for letting UFC Fight Night: Yan vs. Figueiredo in Macau fly under the radar.
But for those who adjusted their schedules and tuned in to watch the action live, they were treated to an entertaining lineup of fights that delivered all-out wars and spectacular knockouts.
The fight card saw Russia’s former UFC bantamweight champion Petr Yan put himself right back in the frame for a shot at the 135-pound strap currently held by nemesis Merab Dvalishvili, while Chinese strawweight Yan Xiaonan bounced back from her title fight loss at UFC 300 with a dominant victory over Brazilian contender Tabatha Ricci.
Also on the card, Muslim Salikhov registered a Knockout of the Year contender with a stunning wheel-kick knockout of Song Kenan, while Zhang Mingyang blasted his way to a first-round knockout as he put the light heavyweight division on notice. There was also a kickboxing masterclass from light heavyweight contender Carlos Ulberg, and an emotional underdog victory for Brazil’s Gabriella Fernandes.
On this week’s episode of The RDX Sports Podcast with Simon Head, I take a look back at the main card from UFC Macau to bring you the last word on the weekend’s big fight action.
