Unbeaten featherweight prospect Cam Teague has a new opponent, but his focus on success, and a UFC contract, remains as sharp as ever.
Teague, whose 7-0 record includes four knockout and two submissions, was all set to face highly-touted Cage Warriors star Luke Riley at Dana White’s Contender Series later this month. But, after visa issues forced the Englishman out of the matchup, Teague was handed a fresh challenge.
Now he’ll take on Argentina’s Kevin Vallejos, a 13-1 prospect who went the distance in a losing effort against Jean Silva in the Contender Series last September, and is now getting a second bite of the cherry.
“I’m ready for it,” Teague told RG.org.
“If I can compete with a guy like that and bang with him, then I can bang with anyone up there in the featherweight division, honestly.”
Teague earned his shot at the UFC APEX with an impressive start to his professional career. He went the distance in his pro debut back in March 2023, but since then, it’s been finishes all the way, with four first-round and two second-round victories putting him in the frame.
His most recent win, against five-fight former UFC veteran Austin Lingo, finished with a second-round TKO victory and convinced the UFC’s matchmakers to give him a Contender Series shot.

Now he can see a direct path to the UFC, Teague plans on making his opportunity count. And, while his opponent may have changed, he said Vallejos’ size and style are pretty similar to Riley, which makes his gameplan very similar to what he originally had planned.
“I got my shot, going to show them September 24, because I am fighting another guy that’s pretty similar to him,” he said.
“Lot of knockouts, hits pretty hard, he’s not as tall as him, he’s a little shorter, but probably be the same type of fight. Work on a few things, move my head a little bit this time, we’ll see how it goes.”
And while Vallejos looked competitive against a fighter who has gone on to impress in the UFC, Teague is determined to prove that he’s a cut above when he faces “El Chino” on September 24.
“I’m not Jean Silva, I’m Cam Teague. It’s going to be a different fight. Just because he went the distance with that guy doesn’t mean anything to me,” he said.
“I think I can compete with those guys, so I’m going to prove myself and find out September 24 if I can compete with those guys.”
“Tune in, you’re going to get the Cam Teague fight like every time you get. It will be the fight of the night, and we’re gonna get that contract.”
