Donald Cerrone had an emphatic win over lightweight contender Al Iaquinta at UFC Ottawa earlier this month.
Now, Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone has accepted the challenge to fight against former UFC interim lightweight title holder Tony Ferguson. The fight will take place at UFC 238 on June 8.
Cerrone has surprised many by accepting the fight on such short notice but that’s Donald Cerrone for you.
Cerrone took to Instagram to detail his acceptance of a match with Tony Ferguson.
He wrote on Instagram,
“Was down Cave Diving when the UFC called! “ hey want to fight in 3 weeks?” I said hell yessss dropped the bowl of guacamole and set the beer down ??♂️ hopped the next bird home and ready to rock June 8 in Chicago.”
Donald Cerrone is currently riding on a three-fight winning streak. Cerrone has an overall professional score of 36-11-0. He is also ranked no.4 in the division.
Meanwhile, Tony Ferguson is on an 11 fight winning streak with an overall score of 24-3-0. Ferguson is ranked no.3 in the division.
Ferguson, 35, has been out of action since his Fight of the Night epic against Anthony Pettis at UFC 229. The fight saw The Ultimate Fighter 13 winner earn a TKO stoppage in the second round.
‘El Cucuy’ has been out of action since then due to mental illness, but the 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu product was medically cleared to fight in April. The MMA veteran is currently riding an impressive eleven-fight win streak.
UFC 238 will be headlined by a bantamweight title bout. Flyweight title holder Henry Cejudo will move up in weight to take on Marlon Moraes.
