In one of the biggest fight nights of the year, we look forward to seeing a whole host of British champions and soon to be champions in action at Liverpool’s Echo Arena on Saturday 22nd November. Froch v Groves II was a big occasion but only for the main event, this has far more interest for boxing fans overall.
Main Event – Cleverly v Bellew II
The main fight as I’m sure everyone now knows by now is the rematch of Cleverly v Bellew. Cleverly won the first fight and would certainly be favourite to do it again. You can never write off the very hardworking Bellew though, he certainly has the motivation needed to succeed and having been in the ring with Cleverly before will know what to expect this time round.
James DeGale v Marco Antonio Periban
James DeGale is in the middle of plotting his way to a rematch with George Groves (who himself is fighting on the same undercard) and should easily deal with Periban. There is no titles up for grabs in this fight but plenty of interest because of the build up to a potential rematch with Groves, which to this date is DeGale’s only pro defeat.
Scott Quigg v Hidenori Otake
The reigning WBA Super Bantamweight World Title holder Scott Quigg is making another defence of his title against Hidenori Otake following his victory last time out in Manchester. The boxer from Bury has been revelation in the last two years because of his all action style and stinging body shots.
Anthony Joshua v Michael Sprott
Perhaps Anthony Joshua’s first real test as a professional boxer, he is taking on the very experienced heavyweight Michael Sprott in a 10 round affair as an eliminator for the British Heavyweight Title. Sprott may have experience but he won’t be any match for Joshua’s athleticism and power, I would expect another early win for AJ.
George Groves v Denis Douglin
George Groves ground out a hard fought victory last time out and is set to return the ring again as he looks to re-build his career following the two defeats to Carl Froch. Groves now has an end goal in sight with James DeGale looking for a rematch at some point in what could be a big all British fight next year.
What are your predictions for the fights? Do you see any shock defeats on the cards and who will be victorious our of Cleverly and Bellew?
