New fighters, whether they belong in boxing, MMA, Muay Thai, or Kickboxing, often watch professional successful fighters with awe and envy. The success is easy to see but the hard work and habits that these fighters have developed to achieve that pinnacle in their respective sports are often ignored.
To help you learn from their experiences, we have gathered some habits that are adopted by the most successful fighter in the combat sports arena;
Habit # 1 of Successful Fighters: The have a Positive Attitude
No matter what kind of situation you get into during your training or tournaments, there are always two ways to look at it.
So you can always choose to view the positive side of the situation.
Suppose your fight goes to decision and it was a close one. You have no control over what the decision will be.
You can believe that you gave it your all and be proud or you can hang your head and go the negative way.
The negativity will crush your spirit slowly and weigh you down.
If you get knocked down 5 times then you should have the attitude to stand up 6 times.
This should be your mantra and push through anything that you face. You will not only get stronger because of it but success will also be in your path.
Habit # 2 of Successful Fighters: Healthy Lifestyles
Fighters have to always be thinking about getting stronger and building endurance.
The only way to do that is by adopting a healthy lifestyle.
Your body has to give you the advantage in the ring or on the mat. It can’t do that if you don’t give it a healthy diet.
Aside from the healthy diet, you have to give proper time for the workouts. Strength training and cardio will give you the tools to learn new techniques, as your body will not be barrier.
Every successful fighter you see will be in supreme physical shape. They obtain that fitness level by evaluating their lifestyle and changing it in order to become better at what they do.
Habit # 3 of Successful Fighters: They are Goal Oriented
You can’t move towards success if you don’t plan for it.
If you keep waiting for that big break or that shining moment during a fight, without putting in the work, then you will be waiting for a while.
Successful fighters set short-term and long-term goals for themselves. The planning doesn’t end there.
They keep a close track of things that happen in their journey. The failures and successes, so they have the data to adjust their plans when needed.
After that you just have to go to every extreme to reach your goals.
Habit # 4 of Successful Fighters: They Never miss Training
Practice and training is the ‘not-so-secret’ secret of success.
Successful fighters need to give their all in every training session and keep their mind and body in sync.
You will get tired, you will want to rest, you will want to quit even but you have to remember why you are doing this all. When you are successful in the ring, every drop of sweat you dropped in the training session will have been worth it.
Habit # 5 of Successful Fighters: They embrace failures
Failure is acceptable.
Not even trying is not.
Mistakes are inevitable in everything that one attempts in life. There are very few people in the world that got their plans completed without hitch.
The rest of us have to deal with setbacks and mistakes.
Embrace them and success will not be far.
Never be disheartened. Always keep your goals in your mind and keep punching through whatever life throws at you…
After all you are a Fighter!
