Flyweight Muay Thai star Kongthoranee Sor Sommai is fresh off a career-high clash with two-sport ONE world champion Superlek Kiatmoo9.
Despite coming up short, he’s taken solace in the fact he was able to go three rounds with the striking great, and he plans to use what he learned from it to return to winning ways against Tagir Khalilov at ONE Fight Night 25: Nicolas vs. Eersel II this Saturday, October 5, inside Bangkok, Thailand’s Lumpinee Stadium.
When the call came to face “The Kicking Machine” at ONE Friday Fights 68 in June, Kongthoranee answered. Ultimately, it snapped his seven-fight winning streak, but it’s certainly not a fight he looks negatively on.
“I don’t feel regret for the loss. I’m just hungrier for victory. What do I have to regret when I lose to a world-class fighter like Superlek? I just want to start to build my winning streak again. Let’s start at ONE Fight Night 25,” Kongthoranee said.
“Not only that, if I can win impressively, they will give me a chance to fight against a top-five ranked opponent in the future. I have no problem fighting them because I fought against a top guy like Superlek already. I’m not afraid of anyone any more.”
During his blistering run in the ONE Friday Fights series, Kongthoranee set himself apart from the pack with three stunning knockouts.
After showing off his deadly skillset across that included a seven-fight winning streak, the Thai youngster eventually earned a contract and a place on ONE’s global roster – so ONE Fight Night 25 comes as a special occasion for Kongthoranee.
And as far as the 27-year-old sees it, there’s no better way to mark his arrival on the main roster than to land a knockout blow on Khalilov and secure an additional bonus to boot.
“The fight should end with style. I’m feeling confident,” Kongthoranee said.
“If I can finish the fight, I want to end it quickly because it’s my first fight at ONE Fight Night, and the bonus is huge – much more than in ONE Friday Fights.”
