Ahead of his eight-round heavyweight boxing match with Mike Tyson on Friday night, Jake Paul spoke to reporters at the pre-fight press conference, as the 27-year-old stated his belief that he would knock out the 58-year-old former heavyweight champion.
During the press conference, Paul also paid tribute to the other big-name fighters on the card for helping it become a box office success before they step through the ropes at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
Here are the key quotes from Jake Paul from the presser…
Jake Paul on what goes through his mind when he thinks of a prime Mike Tyson…
“Yeah, it’s cute. I fear no man. So, I want him to be that old savage Mike.
“He says he’s going to kill me. I’m ready. I want that killer. I want the hardest match possible Friday night, and I want there to be no excuses from everyone at home when I knock him out.”
Jake Paul on what his bout with Tyson means to boxing…
“Well, the people speak for themselves. I don’t even have to ask them. (The) biggest live gate in US boxing history outside of Las Vegas. Numbers don’t lie. People want to see this and that’s an amazing accomplishment.
“Credit to Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano and Mike and everyone on the card as well. We all did this together, and this is a statement that we had the biggest live gate outside of Vegas in US boxing history.”
Jake Paul on Tyson’s claim that he’s a natural-born killer and Jake is a “manufactured” killer…
“Whatever he wants to think. Everyone’s entitled to their opinion, but the deadliest weapon on the planet is manufactured, and that’s a nuke.”
Jake Paul on whether there’s any chance the fight goes to a decision…
“No, someone’s getting put to sleep. It’s going to be a war and we’re both heavy hitters. It’s not going the full 16 minutes.”
Jake Paul on his critics…
“I’m blessed to be in the position I am, to be highly criticised. That just means I’m doing something right.
“No one has had a boxing career like mine. It’ll be studied and judged, but I’ve risen to the top in four years because I’ve taken risks. I was the underdog all the way up until Nate Robinson and that’s something that people don’t remember [and] don’t give any credit to, but I put it on the line against some of the best in the sport every single time. That’s why I’m here on Netflix against the biggest name in boxing right now.”
Jake Paul on whether he thinks Tyson will bite his ear during the bout…
“I’m not getting my s**t bit off on Friday night, so I got my diamond spiked ear covers right there.”
Tyson, meanwhile, had somewhat less to say, and looked decidedly disinterested on the dais as the press conference unfolded.
“I’m just ready to fight,” he said.
“I’ve said everything I had to say. There’s nothing else to say. I’m just looking forward to fighting.”
And when a reporter asked what he would lose if he lost to Paul, his response was short and sharp.
“I’m not going to lose.”
