Two-sport ONE world champion Jonathan Haggerty is just days away from the biggest fight of his career, and he’s ensuring every drop of his sweat and blood has been put into preparation.
“The General” puts the bantamweight Muay Thai crown on the line when he meets ONE flyweight kickboxing world champion Superlek Kiatmoo9 in the monumental main event of ONE 168: Denver on Saturday night in Denver, Colorado.
There are rarely small bouts when a fighter is a world champion. The assignments only get larger. This makes getting ready that much more intense, and Haggerty hasn’t shied away from that one bit ahead of his meeting with “The Kicking Machine.”
“We’ve left no stone unturned. I know everybody says this, but really, this is the hardest camp I’ve ever done. This is 13 weeks of solid, hard work, dieting, head down,” he said.
Denver is notorious for its thin air, so Haggerty and his team arrived in the “Mile High City” with plenty of time to spare in order to avoid any errors.
The altitude has been responsible for the unexpected fall of many fighters in the past, and they didn’t want that to play a role at ONE 168.
Now he’s closing in on fight night at the Ball Arena, all systems are go for “The General.” His run since joining the bantamweight division has been unstoppable, and he doesn’t intend to let Superlek bring that to an end.
“We’re out here in Denver acclimatising. I think it was a great idea to come out four weeks before the fight,” he said.
“We just wanted to get a head start. We wanted to get our foot in the door as soon as possible. You know, we wanted to get a head start. So we came out to Denver four weeks before to acclimatize, get used to it, no excuses. So when fight night comes, we’re more than ready.”
