Recently UFC lightweight reigning champion Khabib Nurmagomedov challenged boxing’s king Floyd Mayweather a bout inside the ring, to which Money favorably responded. However, UFC President Dana White wants Mayweather vs. Khabib happening on the octagon.
While discussing the idea of two powerhouses of boxing and MMA colliding, Dana White said to TMZ,
“Listen, if Mayweather wants to fight, come fight. You fight in the UFC.”
Dana went on to add about a possible Mayweather vs. Khabib,
“We’re not boxing again. We did that once, that’s over. You want to fight? You come fight – a real fight.”
The possibility of two facing off each other came into limelight when Russian star Khabib Nurmagomedov called out on five-weight unbeaten champion Floyd Mayweather for a bout after dispatching humiliation to his bitter rival Conor McGregor in headliner event in UFC 229.
Mayweather had already beaten the Notorious in August 2017 by submitting him loss via a 10th round KO. The bout brought along huge financial benefit for Money as he amassed a total of 210 million pounds.
In response to the Dagestan native’s call, Mayweather responded “come into my world,” to which Nurmagomedov said that he was looking for match at his home turf in Moscow.
Right now, Khabib faces a temporary ban by Nevada Athletic State Commission following the post-fight melee in UFC 229. The ban would be lifted once the Commission completes its investigation for the brawl that broke after the main fight between Khabib and McGregor.
UFC President Dana White considers Tony Ferguson the right candidate to battle with, once Khabib’s ban is lifted. According to Dana,
“Tony Ferguson is the right fight. It’s the fight to make. It obviously depends on the suspension and what happens – we’ll see.”
