The British boxing sensation and former champion, Amir Khan claims to be undistracted by talk of a potential fight with the undefeated pound for pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr. despite being only a few days away from his fight with Chris Algieri. Only a couple of days ago, reports of Khan and Mayweather resurfaced; and with the American pugilist stating that Khan was distracted because of him.
Khan rejected the reports and said that although he is more than willing to get Mayweather for a showdown, he is focusing on the upcoming 29th May’s fight with Algieri. Khan, who reigned as a champion twice, is going for his second fight in the welterweight division against the American professional boxer Chris Algieri.
Soon after Mayweather’s notorious win against Manny Pacquiao on 2nd May in the ‘Fight of the Century’, Khan threw his hat in the ring for Mayweather and since then is enticing and luring Mayweather to agree to a fight.
In the midst of this, Khan had reportedly lost his focus. Khan admitted that in the past he had made such mistakes, but history will not repeat itself when he locks horn with Algieri this weekend.
“I’m within touching distance of a big mega-fight but like I said, we have to get past this fight on Friday night. Hopefully we get past this in good fashion and I think the Mayweather fight will be there. People were already talking about it at the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight,” said Khan.
Khan said that he has sparred around 250 rounds and is absolutely ready for the faceoff with Algieri. Despite Algieri’s home ground benefit, Khan is sure that he will bring him down.
