Conor McGregor, the UFC lightweight champion, made his boxing debut in August against one of the great boxers of all time, Floyd Mayweather. The spectacle ended with a technical knockout and a win for Mayweather. But many in the boxing world saw that Conor has some skills as a boxer. Naturally, other boxers now want a piece of him.
Paulie Malignaggi and Conor McGregor
The saga of Paulie Malignaggi and Conor McGregor is very well known.
He quit Conor’s training camp and there were implications and trash talk between the two.
Afterwards, there was a lot of talk of a possible boxing matchup between the two. Malignaggi made it clear that he wanted McGregor in the ring.
But Conor wants Malignaggi to step into the octagon with him.
Sources say that Malignaggi’s team has reached out to Dana White in hopes of a possible fight.
Jeff Horn and Conor McGregor
Jeff Horn won the WBO welterweight championship by shocking Manny Pacquiao.
He is all set for his first title defense against Gary Corcoran in Brisbane.
His team is also looking for the next fight in the middle of June next year. It has been reported that they are looking at Conor McGregor as a possible opponent.
All this interest in McGregor from the boxing world must irk UFC lightweights that are waiting in line to face him in the octagon.
‘The Notorious’ will have to defend his title at the UFC soon or risk being stripped of the championship.
Conor may forget about UFC altogether and pursue his boxing career if opportunities like these keep coming up for him, which will be bad for the UFC.
But that seems highly unlikely, for now.
McGregor has yet to respond to these reports. It will interesting to hear what he has to say about these possible bouts.
