Petr Yan’s callout of Merab Dvalishvili didn’t go unnoticed, and it might just have landed him another shot at the UFC bantamweight title.
Yan made a big statement with his victory over Deiveson Figueiredo at UFC Macau, and he made good use of his mic time after his win as he called for a rematch with Dvalishvili, who defeated him en route to a title shot against Sean O’Malley.
Dvalishvili won that fight, and now sits pretty at the top of the UFC bantamweight division. Yan is battling to get back to the top of the division, and called for a rematch with the Georgian next year, with the title on the line.
“Before my fight, Merab said Deiveson Figueiredo was the number one contender who deserved the title fight,” he said.
“I want to say, Merab, what do you say now, when I beat the number one contender in my division? I want to do the rematch with Merab. Let’s get it!”
Dvalishvili heard Yan’s callout loud and clear, and responded with a refreshingly straightforward acceptance.
“Great fight, Petr,” said the reigning champion in an Instagram video message.
“I like your callout, and I like your respect. Let’s go again after two years. March 8, T-Mobile (Arena). Let’s f*****g go!”
Dvalishvili also shared a video of himself watching the Yan-Figueiredo fight at UFC Macau from his home, and he clearly loved what he saw as he paid tribute to both fighters, including a word for Yan, saying that he “looked absolutely unstoppable.”
He later posted another video to his X page to demonstrate just how hard it will be to rip the title from around his waist.
Clearly, Dvalishvili is pumped up for the potential title bout with Yan, and if they get their wish for the fight to take place on March 8 at UFC 313 it’ll guarantee an all-action title fight for the Las Vegas event.
