Jake Paul and Mike Tyson will face off in a professional boxing bout over eight, two-minute rounds at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas on Friday night in a bout that has the sports and entertainment world talking.
It’s a matchup that has generated plenty of comment, positive and negative, with English UFC star Paddy Pimblett admitting that he’s bemused by the whole thing.
When asked how he thought the fight would pan out, Pimblett told OLBG, “I don’t even know. That’s just like a freak show fight, I wouldn’t even put a prediction on that.
“I hope Mike Tyson knocks him out. As we’ve just said, he’s 58 years of age, and he hasn’t fought in about 15 years, as well.
“He was still an absolute unit when I met him, anyway, and he wasn’t in shape then. He’s still an absolute brick s**thouse. He’s just built like that.
“Now he’s in shape, but he shouldn’t be fighting at 58, it’s just ridiculous. It’s just stupid. He definitely doesn’t need to, either. He’s got the money to not fight, so I just don’t understand why they’re doing it.”
Pimblett said that, after initially trashing Paul’s boxing when the former YouTube star made his initial foray into the sport, he actually respects Paul’s commitment to training and improving, and the results are there to see.
“I’ve chatted a lot of s**t about Jake Paul because he never used to be able to throw a punch, but now that he’s actually trained for a few years, he can throw a punch. His boxing doesn’t actually look that bad,” he admitted.
“But a few years ago when he started and people were saying to me ‘you fight Jake Paul,’ I was like, ‘lad, he’s f*****g s**te’. But now he’s trained for that long and put that much work in, you’ve got to give him his due. He doesn’t look that bad.”
Paul is the betting favourite heading into the matchup, but Pimblett had a word of warning for “The Problem Child,” whose last win came against former UFC welterweight turned bare knuckle star Mike Perry. But now Paul faces the former undisputed heavyweight champion of the world who, despite his age, can still pack a punch.
“He outboxed Mike Perry even though he had like 40 pounds on him,” he said.
“But it’s Tyson… Whether he’s 58 or not, it’s Mike Tyson.”
