Paddy “The Baddy” Pimblett is in training ahead of his next UFC bout, and the rumour mill went into overdrive after the Liverpudlian released his latest video to his YouTube channel.
Pimblett gave his fans an update as he revealed that he and his next opponent have both verbally agreed to fight, and the contracts are just about to be signed before the bout is officially announced.
“People have been speculating about who I’m fighting, this and that,” he said.
“I’m coming for that belt, so I’m looking for higher-ranked fighters, and I’m sure you’ll see a fight announcement soon enough.
“I’ve said yeah. The opponent’s said yeah. We just need to get stuff signed.”
Pimblett then signed off with a familiar catchphrase as he sent the MMA rumour mill spinning by saying, “You know the score, everyone. Like, comment, subscribe… and I’ll see you at the top!”
Those final six words are the familiar sign-off by former Bellator lightweight champion and UFC crowd-pleaser Michael Chandler, and Pimblett’s cheeky reference to it in his sign-off has had fans and media outlets speculating over whether the pair are set to be matched.
In terms of their respective careers, it’s a bout that seems to make a fair amount of sense. Pimblett is climbing the lightweight ladder and, following his superb submission finish of King Green at UFC 304, he’s looking to face one of the division’s big names.
Chandler, meanwhile, is looking to rebound from his UFC 309 defeat to Charles Oliveira and, with the former Bellator star 1-4 from his last five, he’s keen to turn his form around as he repositions himself for more big fights in 2025. A fight with Pimblett would certainly garner plenty of attention.
It remains to be seen whether Pimblett was just playing games, or whether a huge Chandler vs. Pimblett bout is about to be announced for an upcoming card.
