It’s big news for “Big News,” as Paul Hughes has landed a huge matchup at the PFL’s upcoming pay-per-view superfight event.
Former Cage Warriors featherweight champion Hughes will take on former Bellator featherweight champion AJ McKee in a lightweight battle at PFL: Battle of the Giants on Saturday, October 19, 2024 as part of the fight card headed by the MMA return of Francis Ngannou.
Hughes was one of European MMA’s biggest free agents after departing Cage Warriors, and he explored his options before signing with the PFL. His debut came on the Bellator Champions Series event in Dublin earlier this year, where he scored a second-round TKO finish of Bobby King.
Hughes has an impressive 12-1 record, but he’ll be facing a man with even more experience, and victories, to his name. Former 145-pound Bellator champ McKee is 22-1, with his only loss coming on the scorecards to Bellator all-time great Patricio Pitbull.
Since then, “The Mercenary” has built a four-fight win streak, with wins over Spike Carlyle, Rizin lightweight champ Roberto de Souza, Sidney Outlaw and, most recently, Clay Collard, who he defeated on the PFL vs. bellator event in Riyadh in February.
Now McKee is set to return to Saudi Arabia to face Hughes, with their matchup adding another exciting clash to the fight card for the October 19 event.
