England’s Brendan Loughnane was bang on the featherweight limit when he took to the scale for his PFL featherweight semi-final bout with Kai Kamaka III in Washington DC.
Former PFL featherweight champion Loughnane is bidding to become a two-time PFL global season champion, and victory on Friday night will put him one win away from that goal, but in Kamaka he faces a game opponent who is in strong form himself.
Both men looked in shape and ready for battle as they stepped onto the scale, with Loughnane coming in at 146 pounds, while Kamaka was marginally lighter, at 145.6.
The night’s other featherweight semi-final will see Gabriel Braga take on Timur Khizriev, and both men also made weight without issue, with Braga tipping the scale at 146 pounds, compared to Khizriev’s 145.8.
The main card will also determine the two finalists in the welterweight season. Magomed Umalatov will take on Neiman Gracie in the co-main event, while Shamil Musaev will face Murad Ramazanov in the main card opener. All four fighters made their contracted weights with ease.
The main card will follow a five-fight preliminary slate that includes notable PFL names Ray Cooper III, Tyler Diamond and Enrique Barzola.
One fight fell by the wayside, after Eric Alequin failed to register an official weight at the official session. It meant his scheduled matchup with Luca Poclit, who did make weight, was pulled from the fight card.
PFL 9 takes place on Friday night and streams live in the US on ESPN/ESPN+, and across Europe and Canada on DAZN.
