UFC 214 is happening this weekend, 29th July 2017 and is considered to be one of the most anticipated grudge ‘rematches’ ever in the UFC.
Former champion Jon Jones, who never lost the belt via a bout, is fighting Daniel Cormier who was decisively defeated in their first fight but became the champion of Jones’s vacated belt.
Trash-talk comes as a plus when UFC rematch press conference is held, and this is what happened on Monday.
Jones and the Rivalry
Jones apparently has no problem with the rivalry and considers this fight just another match because he has already defeated many in the octagon.
“I feel like the rivalry – well, I think Daniel’s right it’s not really a rivalry, the whole beginning of this thing I tried to be nice to him, as a young black kid, seeing as he’s Cain Velasquez’s coach and is a wrestler that has far greater credentials than me – I thought I was gonna freaking meet this guy and we were gonna be cool. I thought we were gonna have a new inside joke every time I saw him.
And his pride, and his whatever pre-notions that he had about me before – I didn’t know who he was, he knew who I was when we met. And – anyways. Anyways I never had a problem with him, I don’t have problems with people I’ve beaten already. I don’t got a problem with Glover, Chael, or Andre Gusmao or any of those guys. He has a problem with me, and I hate him because he hates me.”
Jones has time and time again has shown his indifference towards the opinions.
And thoughts of others because in the end, he feels, he’s there to fight and perform – not play the nice guy.
After all being said, Jones will be fighting after a 15-month layoff since his last bout VS St. Ovince Pereux. And he will be looking for revenge.
The Clarity
While Cormier has fought 4 times in the octagon, keeping himself very active, Jones feels he’d win this fight due to new found ‘Clarity’.
With the many struggles of Jones highlighted throughout his career such as drug use, banned PED substance abuse, and party boy antics he was labeled many things – ‘Cheat’ being one of them.
UFC 214 is taking place at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif. Jones vs. Cormier is the headline fight. Daniel Cormier will fight with a 19-1-0 record against Jon Jones with a record of 22-1-0.
Another fight to look forward to at UFC 214 is Tyron Woodley vs. Demian Maia for the welterweight title and Jimi Manuwa fighting Volkan Oezdemir.
Can Cormier erase the one blemish on his record by beating his nemesis in Jon Jones? Will, and can they bury the hatchet when all is said and done? Sound off in the comment box and let us know what you think!
