Billy Joe Saunders went to Quebec Canada to fight David Lemieux in his hometown. It wasn’t much of a boxing fight. It was more of a boxing clinic for all the fighters out there on how they shouldn’t fight a southpaw. Lemieux was completely out-boxed in all 12 rounds.
Naturally, Saunders was crowned the winner via unanimous decision.

From the starting bell, it was clear who was in control in the fight.
Saunders looked comfortable and floated around the ring, at times taunting Lemieux.
On the other hand, Lemieux looked timid and out of his element.
Lemieux was coming off 4 straight wins, 2 by KO. So he was in fine form and his confidence seemed high. He is an explosive puncher that has the right amount of power and accuracy behind every punch.
But Brit was in a class of his own.
Saunders had a game plan and he executed it well against the Canadian. He seemingly slipped every power punch coming his way and to top it off, his taunts were like salt on an open wound for Lemieux who was desperate to get something going in the match.
Unanimous Decision
To his credit, David Lemieux hung in there until the very end. He showed heart and tenaciousness that he is known for. Many fighters would have said “No Mas” after that kind of treatment from an opponent.
In the end, the judges scored the match 117-111, 118-110, and 120-108 in favor of Billy Joe Saunders.
Next for Saunders
The boxing world believes that Saunders can only be challenged or truly tested by Canelo Alvarez or Gennady Golovkin.
A fight between any one of those two opponents will be worth watching for every boxing fan.
The post-fight interview cleared up who Saunders wants to fight next. He called out GGG by name.
The GGG vs Saunders match will be scintillating one to watch. And it could likely happen late next year.
