It’s strongly rumored that UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov will return to fight on the UFC 242 card. UFC recently confirmed this card for the month of September. Following the announcement, the interim champion Dustin Poirier, took to Twitter to say he would see Nurmagomedov in the Octagon.

The UFC announced that UFC 242 will be held on September 7 in Abu Dhabi. There are rumors that Nurmagomedov will make his return to the Octagon for the first time since his ban.

Nurmagomedov has to defend his title against interim lightweight champion Dustin Poirier in a title unification clash. Poirier has won against Max Holloway in a hard-fought interim title fight, earlier this month in Atlanta.

On April 29, following the announcement of UFC Abu Dhabi, Poirier tweeted out a cryptic message. He tweeted out a message to Nurmagomedov confirming his fight at UFC 242.

“Location sent,” the tweet simply read.

Khabib Nurmagomedov played on words through a tweet during his infamous rivalry with Conor McGregor. He simply demanded a location to fight McGregor after the later attacked his bus during the week of UFC 223 in April last year.

The fight took place at UFC 229 in October where Khabib Nurmagomedov beat McGregor in the fourth round. After the fight, Nurmagomedov jumped out of the cage and attacked members of McGregor’s team. Two of Nurmagomedov’s teammates attacked the Irish superstar in the Octagon.

Nurmagomedov received a nine-month ban for taking part in the post-match fight. He can fight again in July. However, he had warned that he would stay out of action until October 2019 — when the bans for two of his teammates would finish.

UFC 242 will mark the second UFC pay-per-view event in Abu Dhabi and the third UFC event there overall.
