As former UFC champ and one of the best to ever enter the Octagon, Georges St-Pierre bids farewell to a prestigious career in MMA history.

In a press conference in Montreal, St-Pierre (26-2 MMA, 20-2 UFC) declared his retirement from MMA. The choice to retire comes due to a number of reasons, including feedback from the MMA community.

The two-division UFC champion, who was able to put mixed martial arts on the map in Canada, has announced his retirement from the sport.

He insisted,

“There are no tears,

“It takes a lot of discipline to retire on top. It was a long process in my mind, but it’s time to do it. Only a few people have done it.

“I’m here to announce my retirement. It’s hard to retire when you’re in a combat sport. I always said it’s better to do it yourself than be told to do it. You should retire on top.”

St-Pierre thanked all of his coaches, staff and those who helped him through his way to an amazing career.


He said,

“All the people that I mentioned had a huge influence on my career.

“If it was not for them, I wouldn’t be able to be where I am.”

St-Pierre, who left with a 26-2 record, defended his 170-pound title nine times, has not ruled out a return to the sport if ever an “exciting opportunity” arises.

“Some athletes when they retire, they get fat and out of shape. It’s not going to happen to me.”
