Kelvin Gastelum promises to beat Israel Adesanya in a title shot for the interim UFC middleweight at UFC 236. In an Instagram post, Gastelum said that Israel Adesanya does not impress him. He further said that Adesanya will get smoked at UFC 236.
Kelvin Gastelum and Israel Adesanya will feature in the co-main event of UFC 236 for interim UFC middleweight championship title next month. If things go as planned, the winner will fight 185-pound champion Robert Whittaker at a later date.
Adesanya’s skills include MMA, kickboxing and boxing but he has turned his attention solely to MMA since 2017. After debuting against Rob Wilkinson at UFC 221, Adesanya earned huge respect in 2018. He also earned breakout fighter of the year awards across the MMA community. Last month’s performance against the legendary Anderson Silva also earned him many fans
However, Kelvin Gastelum continues to be unimpressed by Adesanya’s performances. Gastelum talked about the upcoming fight in an Instagram post.
“I’ve been here before…he’s going to get smoked. He’s so much shorter, he doesn’t have the [genetics].”
“I’ve been here before…I’ve heard this before…Now look at my face here. I DON’T CARE.”
With back to back wins over Michael Bisping and Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza, Gastelum was all set to fight Whittaker for the undisputed 185-pound title last month. However, on the day of event, a hernia suddenly forced Whittaker out of the title fight.
Gastelum claimed to be the (unofficial) UFC middleweight champion as Whittaker couldn’t compete that night. However, the official interim title still remains at stake when Gastelum and Adesanya meet at UFC 236.
UFC 236 will take place on April 13, 2019, from the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia. Max Holloway faces Dustin Poirier for an interim lightweight championship in the main event.
