Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Lightweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov (28-0 MMA, 12-0 UFC) claims one of the best records of any mixed martial arts (MMA) champion ever.
“The Eagle” believes he should be labeled the pound-for-pound best fighter on the planet, since staying undefeated in no easy task. It’s something he knows all too well which is why he plans on retiring in two or three more years.
After an absence of almost one year from the Octagon, Khabib Nurmagomedov made a comeback to the cage at UFC 242 in Abu Dhabi after having signed a multi-fight contract with the promotion. In the first fight of the deal, Nurmagomedov defended the UFC Lightweight Championship against Dustin Poirier at UFC 242 in Abu Dhabi, and submitted Conor McGregor at UFC 229 in October 2018.
Expecting a return in March, Nurmagomedov wants to fight in his home country of Russia against former interim-division champion, Tony Ferguson, who has won his past 12 fights since 2013.
The current UFC Lightweight Champion is willing to fight for the next two years at best and further stated that to remain undefeated and unbeaten is almost impossible.
“I think a couple of years. Two, three – maximum three. I think maybe two years, in my opinion, because I don’t want to fight all my life because I know it’s very hard.” Nurmagomedov said in a recent interview. “I know a lot of young, hungry guys are coming, and I know to always be undefeated, undisputed, is not almost impossible – I think it’s impossible.”
