UFC has officially announced Michael Chandler vs Charles Oliveira for the vacant lightweight title at UFC 262 on 15th May 2021. Number three-ranked Charles Oliveira (30-8-0, 18-8-0 UFC) is all set to face number four in the lightweight division for the title against Michael Chandler (22-5-0, 1-0-0 UFC).
The news is surprising for many fans considering it was reported that UFC is looking at a potential fight between Justin Gaethje and Michael Chandler.
President Dana White announced the retirement of Khabib Nurmagomedov that means the UFC needed to crown a new champion and took no time to find the two eligible candidates willing to fill the slot. Charles Oliveira vs Michael Chandler will be the beginning of the new era of dominance in the 155-pound division.
There is no word yet on if this bout will serve as the main event, but it is currently the only title fight on the lineup.
