UFC Fight Night: Main Event Abruptly Ends
Yair Rodriguez vs Brian Ortega
The match was a brilliant display of showmanship between two excellent fighters with perfect skill. Ortega opened an early cut over Yairs eye however Yair put on a beautiful display of his striking arsenal landing almost at will against a rather open defense. This did not deter the pressure fighter in Ortega. While taking shots that would’ve knocked any average individual out Brian kept attempting to move forward. T-City found himself in the ground and pound with El Pantera, rolling away and looking to defend against ground strikes. However after a submission attempt went askew we witnessed an abrupt stoppage. As Ortega was escaping from a potentially dangerous situation. He was seen rolling onto his back holding his shoulder in what looked like extreme pain.
Yair didn’t even pursue this where most other fighters would have looked for a finish and the fight was even decided as a technical knockout. An argument could easily be made for a submission win in favor of Yair. However during the post match octagon interview with Brian Ortega, his disappointment was clear to see with a simple wish to have a potential rematch when he returns from the injury, to which Yair agreed.

Matt Schnell Vs. Su Mudaerji
In what may be one of the best rounds of the year, what may also be one of the fights of the year and also potentially the comeback fight of the year. Our good friend ‘Danger’, rocked on multiple occasions, absorbed Mudaerji’s superior striking and all he could offer; never took a step back and applied his patent pressure as the fight intensified.
As the first round progressed the match seemed clearly one sided against Schnell. Su’s onslaught continued in the second round and he didn’t seem to be slowing down by any means. That’s when Matt suddenly lands a right hand flush on the button, stunning Su. The game had already changed. Following with a well timed takedown, Matt reigned down heavy ground and pound mixed with crushing elbows wearing his opponent down. All, until he managed to get the triangle choke to end with the submission win.
Bill Algeo Vs Herbert Burns
Exciting prospect and ex-RDX ambassador Bill Algeo is a slick Jiu-Jitsu black belt with some high level striking.
Bill displayed great takedown defense, getting out of two very serious submission attempts despite being pressured to the limit. Herbert eventually ran out of cardio from all the energy expended in the first round going from submission-to-submission. Senor Perfecto would capitalize on this pour ground and pound on an exhausted Herbert. Halfway through the second round Burns was unable to defend himself and get up off the canvas when he started complaining of a knee injury.
The referee waved off the match as a Technical Knockout . Algeo displayed exceptional cardio and defense throughout the match showing that pressure makes one shine and that the winner is whoever wants it more.
