British boxing prodigy Amir Khan is fine tuning his skills and punches to face off Canadian-Colombian fighter in an upcoming bout at Arena Birmingham, England this Saturday (September 8).

The former unified light-welterweight world vows to add more firework to his performance inside the ring this time around. King made his last appearance against Phil Lo Greco in April this year, dispatching a KO in less than 40 seconds. His ring entry in the previous fight came after two years and there were many questions regarding his ability to overcome an apparent ring rust and an impressive performance after a prolonged absence from the boxing ring.

His refusal to fight low-profile fighters in an attempt to bag a big-name bout has done the 31-year-old boxer more harm than good.

While speaking to the media about his upcoming fight, the Bolton star said that he wouldn’t waste any more time on trying to bag a mega-fight against Pacquiao or Mayweather, rather he would just go with the flow. This is what the 31-year-old boxer said to the media,

“One of my aims this year was to be as active as possible, so I’m very happy to get back in the ring again so soon against Samuel Vargas. Vargas is a tough and well-schooled fighter, who has shared the ring with some top welterweights including Danny Garcia and Errol Spence Jr.”

The British fighter went on to add,

“I have to get past Vargas before looking at the biggest challenges going forward. I’m not going to be taking Vargas lightly because I know he will be coming with everything on September 8. I hope to give the fans in Birmingham the same excitement and fireworks as my last fight. It will be one not to miss!”

However, Vargas promises to give the returning boxer some ample time on the canvas. The Colombian is insisting that Khan wouldn’t even come close to a quick fix this time. This is what he said to the media,

“I am excited to step in the ring with Amir Khan on September 8,” said Vargas. “I am very pleased that my promoter Lee Baxter and Eddie Hearn from Matchroom Boxing could come to an arrangement fairly easily and make this fight happen. I have been granted more than enough time to properly prepare for Amir and you will see the best Samuel Vargas to date.”

Former NCC welterweight champion further added,

“Mark my words, we might both be from the same city and county but I am nothing like Phil Lo Greco that’s a guarantee – I’m going to give Amir hell.”
