Since winning the 2012 Olympic gold medal in London, heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua has had nothing but successes in his professional career and is fast scaling the ladder of professional boxing. In his recent bout against Matt Legg, Joshua was once again on top form, achieving a first round knock out in a mere 83 seconds!
As one of the undercards for the heavily anticipated Froch v Groves rematch at Wembley stadium, this was probably the largest and most revered venue that Joshua has fought in so far in his career. With opponent Matt Legg entering with a less than impressive 7-2 record to his name, he can at least be credited for giving it a good go against the impressive Joshua, who has yet to have an opponent make it as far as round 3 in six fights.
Legg came out fighting with several hooks at the beginning of the round, unfortunately only a minimal amount of them were on target, barely ruffling Joshua’s feathers. Anthony Joshua waited it out until he saw an opportunity for a knock out which came when Legg left his chin exposed to a powerful right uppercut. This first thundering blow from Joshua left Legg reeling, but it was a second uppercut, followed by a left hook that finally finished him off in the 83rd second of the bout.
Although Joshua has only spent a total of 19minutes in the ring during his brief professional career so far, his performances offer the unmistakable mark of a star in the making, with him already being compared to all time greats such as Lennox Lewis. It’s perhaps too early on in his career to be predicting big things, especially given the limited amount of actual ring time, but Anthony Joshua’s star is definitely on the rise.
