CONOR MCGREGOR agrees to fight the ‘Cowboy’ Donald Cerrone later this year.
Donald Cerrone once again called the former two-division champion out to fight in a lightweight match-up. To everyone’s surprise, Conor Mcgregor actually answered the challenge. This all happened shortly after Cerrone bested Alexander Hernandez at UFC Brooklyn.
Cowboy said after his latest win,
“The old man’s still got it, I want top five. I even want Conor McGregor if he’ll agree to it.”
Soon after the fight, McGregor tweeted a response and accepted the challenge. Cerrone’s win also impressed McGregor, who tweeted,
“For a fight like that, Donald. I’ll fight you. Congratulations.”

Previously, Cerrone had challenged McGregor to a fight at the end of 2018. At the time, he claimed that he was waiting for the Irishman to sign the fight contract.
In response, UFC President Dana White ardently dismissed the idea. White told TMZ Sports:
“Obviously, that’s the fight that ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone wants, but that’s not true.”
This past week Donald Cerrone put up a strong fight against Hernandez. Soon after, Cerrone challenged Conor McGregor again. This time, the latter accepted.
Conor McGregor (21-4) faced Khabib Nurmagomedov for the lightweight championship at UFC 229 in October last year. McGregor lost the fight via submission in the fourth round. On the other hand Donald Cerrone won his first lightweight since 2015, following a 10-fight stint at welterweight. Previously, the 35-year-old lost in June 2018 to Leon Edwards via unanimous decision.
Even though McGregor seems eager to fight Cerrone, the match-up could still never happen. McGregor will appear before the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) on January 29 along with Nurmagomedov. The NSAC is investigating both fighters for their involvement in the UFC 229 post-fight brawl.
If the NSAC sees fit, McGregor and Nurmagomedov may face a fine and a ban for their behavior. In that event, it’s difficult to see McGregor fighting anybody in the near future.
