We all are aware of McGregor’s potential and his ability to generate revenue for himself and UFC. His last fight brought along a fortune; however, it was a performance inside the boxing ring rather than on the octagon.
A few years ago boxers were making more money than MMA artists. But things seem to moving on a different pattern now. UFC’s biggest fighter Conor McGregor claims that he would be bagging around $50,000 as UFC 229 revenue in his bout against Khabib Nurmagomedov, which would be the headliner event for UFC 229. The fight would take place on Oct 6, 2018 in T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas.
While talking to the media at UFC 229 Press Conference, the Notorious said,
“They’re estimating around 3-3.5 million [pay-per-view buys], I’d say I’m closing around the $50 million mark. For a mixed martial artist to make $50 million for a mixed martial arts bout, it’s quite breathtaking.”
According to McGregor, the amount that he would be taking home would be his share of pay-per-view sales. The recent launch of his whiskey bottle Proper Twelve along with his other businesses such as The Mac Life and McGregor F.A.S.T, the Irishman deems himself a billionaire by the time he turns 35.
It is awe-inspiring that McGregor has been able to earn so much in a matter of few years. What is even more impressive is his claim to get a whopping UFC 229 revenue; up to 3-3.5 million. According to UFC President Dana White the event is close to making 3 million. Right now, it is difficult to predict how much pay-per-views the fight would get, but it is definitely going to make a huge revenue. And with higher number of views, McGregor would be banking on greater amount.
Even Conor knows that MMA fighters can make big numbers now. When McGregor and Diaz locked horns, Diaz was taking home $ 20,000 for taking up a fight and $20,000 for winning the bout, a meagre amount if compared to the current purse.
There is no denying that the Notorious has some hefty income streams. And though money might be important for the Irishman, his prime focus right now is to win back the lightweight accolade that he previously lost.
