With undefeated Anthony Joshua not shining on the ring this year around, there is a speculation that heavyweight champ Deontay Wilder may take on Tyson Fury in a thrilling encounter in December.
Deontay was eyeing a head-on encounter with the boxing demi-god AJ somewhere after midyear. However, there were talks from boxing gurus that the fight won’t be happening anytime soon before 2019. With his biggest challenger aside, the Bronze Bomber is now all revved up to take on former heavyweight champ Tyson Fury, marking his solo ring appearance this year.
As Wilder’s team is working on confirming the fight, it is expected that the bout would be fought in Las Vegas and broadcast on Showtime PPV.
This is what 29-year-old Fury had to say in response in a video Tweet:
“Very close to being done.… We’re almost done with this deal. But I won’t be overlooking Francesco Pianeta, he’s going to give me the right fight and the right work to prepare me for Deontay Wilder. I’ve gotta flatten him first and then Wilder, let’s dance. You’ve been dealing with (expletive) in the past in Hearn and Joshua, but I am a man of me word and if I say I’ll fight, I’ll fight ya.”
Fury has been quite vocal about his stance of AJ not taking on a fight with Wilder. The Furious One showed his willingness to take on Wilder, asking for a contract to be sent right away.
The Briton fought tooth and nail against Wladimir Klitschko in November 2015 putting an end to his era of dominance in heavyweight division. However, positive tests for drugs and PED led Fury to relinquish his belt, keeping him away from the canvas for two years. With some time dedicated to rehab followed by his excessive weight gain, Fury finally managed to get his license ratified. After passionately working out, the 29-year-old player fought an encouraging comeback against Sefer Seferi, scoring a win.
2 Fast has a match lined up on August 18 against Francesco Pianeta. Though the Briton’s boxing career has been marred with some controversies, there is not an ounce of doubt that Fury is the heavyweight champ who has not lost a belt on the canvas.
Fury’s promoter, Frank Warren had to say the following about the upcoming fight:
“We are close to making this happen. Is it too soon? The next fight will give us the answer. The way Tyson is looking in the gym, he’s lost another couple of stone, he’s very focused.”
