Former champ Conor McGregor and UFC lightweight champ Khabib Nurmagomedov really don’t like each other. Both McGregor and Khabib have one of the most intense rivalries in MMA history. Even their record-breaking UFC 229 showdown, which Nurmagomedov won, didn’t solve their problems.

Furthermore, McGregor’s early surprise retirement threw a wrench in Nurmagomedov vs McGregor II, which a lot of people were expecting. However, the retirement news didn’t stop the two fighters from going at it on Twitter.

It all happened when Nurmagomedov (27-0 MMA, 11-0 UFC) posted a picture on Instagram. The picture was of Nurmagomedov after winning the lightweight title at UFC 223. Seemingly upset, McGregor (21-4 MMA, 9-2 UFC) couldn’t help but post a response.

On Saturday, Nurmagomedov posted on Instagram,

“Great feeling, after 5 championships rounds. See you soon my fans, very soon. And thank you all you guys, for support all these years.”

The post clearly has no mention of McGregor, but the former champ made it his business anyway. McGregor started this round of verbal warfare and their beef continued on social media over the weekend.

Conor McGregor tweeted in response,

“You got your money took and your brothers eye socket shook when you fought me you little rat. Viva Las Vegas baby the gaf always wins. Big stomper party in the Wynn coming soon!”

Nurmagomedov was quick to fire back at his rival MMA star. Khabib Nurmagomedov replied on Twitter,

“@TheNotoriousMMA money comes and goes, the honor that you lost that evening will never return, live with it. Finish career in mma, but start career on twitter? “

Needless to say, there’s still a lot of hatred between these two top lightweights.

Khabib Nurmagomedov beat McGregor fare and square at UFC 239 via fourth round submission. After, the two were involved in a wild fight that lead to a fine and ban on both fighters.

Nurmagomedov will return to the Octagon later this year but McGregor has recently announced retirement. Though McGregor has a history of making false retirement claims, only time will tell if McGregor means what he says.

Do you think the two lightweight stars should fight again?
