Georges St-Pierre is quite eager to make a return to UFC, engaging in a brawl with the winner of the most anticipated Conor McGregor vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov fight.
UFC President Dana White, on the contrary, doesn’t seem to approve the idea.
St-Pierre and White have had a turbulent relationship, and his recent statement asserts that the bitterness is still there. While talking to the media White said that St-Pierre had retired from UFC and if the former two-division champ wanted to make an appearance in the octagon again, he would have to prove that he is worthy of it by making weight for lightweight category and then earning a title.
Though the promotion tried to get St-Pierre face of Nate Diaz for UFC 227, the fight didn’t actualize. Now the 37-year-old Canadian artist is looking to take on the winner of the UFC 229 main card fight Conor McGregor vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov. However, owning to his infamous history of relinquishing belts, Dana White doesn’t seem too thrilled on the idea. UFC’s President openly showed his disinterest towards a possible Georges St-Pierre vs. Khabib-McGregor winner.
This is what the UFC President had to say,
“Yeah, that’s probably not going to happen. He gave up the 170-pound belt, he gave up the 185-pound belt. I mean it’s like – no. Pick a division.”
“Rush” made his last appearance in the octagon at UFC 217 in November, where he dispatched defeat to Michael Bisping, snatching the middleweight title. However, the badge didn’t stay on his chest for long, as the fighter had to strip it off due to his health concerns.
Following his relinquish, St-Pierre openly talked about how bulking up for welterweight category caused him stomach problems. The 37-year-old fighter has been working on managing his weight and thinks that going down to 155 pounds seems achievable.
Though White is skeptical about St-Pierre taking on the winner of McGregor vs. Khabib, he is ready to have the exceptionally talented player back in the octagon. And upcoming UFC 231 in Toronto on December 8 seems the just right time for St-Pierre to make a comeback.
According to White,
“No, we haven’t talked, but it sounds like we will. Toronto makes sense. Toronto wouldn’t be bad.”
