Following his outstanding victory over Donald Cerrone, Justin Gaethje believes he has performed well to get his first crack at the UFC lightweight title.
In his third straight win, Gaethje defeated “Cowboy” in the first round of the UFC Vancouver main event on Saturday night.
Immediately after his win, Gaethje called for a fight with the winner of the assumed next 155-pound title fight, champion Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Tony Ferguson.
“The Irishman is retired,” Gaethje said of former champ Conor McGregor in his interview with media after the fight. “I want a real fighter. I want the winner of Tony and Khabib. I want to fight Khabib before he’s done, and if Tony wins, nobody’s gonna miss that fight; we could put a million people in a stadium.”
Nurmagomedov and Ferguson are expected to fight each other, but the fight has yet to be signed. Nurmagomedov, who is coming off a submission of Dustin Poirier earlier this month, while Ferguson hasn’t lost a fight in seven years.
Following the UFC Vancouver main event, fans have already started to call for a McGregor vs. Gaethje bout. Gaethje has become one of the topmost fighters in the game due to his ruthless pressuring, vicious leg kicks and heavy hands. Khabib’s wrestling skills are extraordinary. But, Gaethje would be one of the most proficient wrestlers Nurmagomedov has faced in the Octagon to date.
