Former undisputed middleweight world champion ‘Marvelous’ Marvin Hagler died at the age of 66 on Saturday, March 13th, 2021.
“Today, unfortunately, my beloved husband Marvelous Marvin passed away unexpectedly at his home here in New Hampshire,” his wife, Kay, wrote on Facebook. The grieving widow also denied the rumors and clarified that the Covid vaccine did not cause her husband’s death.
Hagler was honored as one of the greatest undisputed boxers from 1980 to 1987. With 12 title defenses, he had the third-longest championship reign. He also had the second longest tenure as the International Boxing Federation middleweight champion, holding the championship belt for six years and seven months.
His spectacular record of 52 knockouts in 62 wins ranked him among boxing’s heaviest hitters. Marvelous was a part of some of the most historic matches of boxing and fought unforgettable bouts against some biggest names in the industry including the “Four Kings” – Roberto Duran, Thomas Hearns and Sugar Ray Leonard.
